Kohala Oral History Project (KOHP) is an ethnographic project archiving the oral histories of the people of Kohala, Hawai’i Island.
It’s pilot documentary, This Is Kohala, specifically endeavours on the life and times of Kohala kupuna during the sugarcane plantation era.
This Is Kohala was screened for the Kohala community in July 2023 and premiered on television and online on PBS Hawai’i in March 2024.
KOHP continues to preserve Kohala oral history through an afternoon school program which teaches local middle and highschoolers documentary filmmaking.
